This was good but not as good as I was expecting. I liked the storyline alot but I thought all the house chores/problems, while setting the scene, was a little too over the top at times and would have liked to have more paranormal stuff.

All in all I liked the characters and the writing style was ok. I will look forward to reading the next part as I think this series could get really good...

Thanks so much for lending me another of your droolworthy books, Amberkatze!!

This one won the battle over Sookie this morning because the 2nd part will be coming soon ...

I will be on the lookout for more books by this author. She's hilarious!
I really could relate to this book, on many levels. Of course, I'm not a demon hunter, but I do have children, 12 and 8 years old (not 14 and 2, thank goodness!)
It was a quick and fun read and I enjoyed it very much! Just have to wait now for the sequel ...

I am happy you liked this! The next part is even better imho....and was in the bag of books I gave you ;)

Ooooo thank you. :)

This took a while to journal, as it got to my old address and no one told me! I picked it up after my birthday, and I was so excited to open it. :) I kinda like the idea of Buffy growing up and having kids like a reader said, hehe!

All sorts of random strangeness. A highly entertaining blend of stay at home mummishness and demonfighting. Highly recommended

Hey, I very much enjoyed this! I worked out the ending in advance but it was still very exciting! :)

Thank you so much, Amberkatze... I'll be mooching this off or swapping it at the next Swansea Swapping Meeting this Thursday. You star! :)

15th December 2007
This book has just been requested on BookMooch, and I hope to retrieve it from the swapping box at Holbrooks soon. So if someone's picked it up and is journalling it, I'd be most appreciative if you could bring it back to the next meeting! Thanks. :)

Received this morning from Sunlightbub - thanks! Perfect timing as I have just finished my previous book and hadn't decided what to read next!

Looks great!

This book has been in my house for just over 24 hours, and I've finshed it. LOVED IT LOVED IT! It made me laugh and I didn't guess the end (but that just might be me being daft) - I empathised with Kate trying to juggle the joys of being a stay-at-home mum (although obviously I don't hunt demons on a daily basis!), and I loved her sarcasm.

My only irk (and it's me being picky) is the reference to Larnaca being in Greece. Petty I know, but I can't help it!

I would love to read the next one if it becomes a ring.

Have pm'd CandyDarling for her address.

Book is winging it's way to Finland.

Journal Entry 13 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Thursday, January 24, 2008
Got this in the mail two days ago, and started reading it immediately. Looks like a fun read. Interesting to read a book where the Vatican is "the good guys" for a change...

Journal Entry 14 by CandyDarling from Helsinki, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Monday, February 18, 2008
I agree with Amberkatze: I thought there was a bit too much about Kate's life as a soccer mom, and I would have liked to see more paranormal stuff. Maybe in the sequel... I thought Carpe Demon was okay, but not great. I found it a bit hard to relate to the main character, as it seems we have completely different ways of thinking. I'm glad I had the chance to read this book.

I have Azuki's address and will mail the book to her asap.

Sent the book to Azuki today. Sorry for the delay!

Thanks sunlightbub for resurrecting the ray so we can all enjoy this book!
Soccer Mom is now safely here and once I finished reading a couple other TBRs ahead of it will dive right in!

It's entertaining, and while not exciting as I would like, it makes for a great fluffy quick read and I'd love to read more of the series. The cast is really interesting: Eddie, Allie, Laura... I suppose Allie will be groomed as the next Hunter?
I am still waiting for thebowiefollies's address, and will mail it as soon as I can.

ETA: 4/24 Haven't heard back from thebowiefollies and bookreadera has read this already. Will continue to find the next reader to pass on.

ETA: 4/28 Finally found the next interested reader!! Mailing this off to mellion108.

Thanks for passing this along to me, azuki, and thank you, sunlightbub, for keeping this ray alive.

The book is here with me. I am reading another ring book now and will start this one next.
Trade paperback, 360 pages

From the back cover:
Lots of women put their careers aside once the kids come along. Kate Connor, for instance hasn't hunted a demon in ages...

That must be why she missed the one wandering through the pet food aisle of the San Diablo Wal-Mart. Unfortunately, he managed to catch her attention an hour later—when he crashed into the Connor house, intent on killing her.

Now Kate has to clean up the mess in her kitchen, dispose of a dead demon, and pull together a dinner party that will get her husband elected to County Attorney—all without arousing her family's suspicion. Worse yet, it seems the dead demon didn't come alone...

It's time for Kate Connor to go to work.

If this had been a movie, I would have been screaming at the screen to get the heroine's attention..."Look! There's the bad guy!" ;-)

This was a quick, fun little book—nothing too deep here. I liked Kate's character to an extent, although I think she is a bit...ditzy (but maybe that's the point?). This is the type of book I like to read when I have a few lazy hours to kill and don't want anything that requires me to think too deeply. That's actually not a criticism of the book. It does what it sets out to do—entertains.

But a grown-up Buffy? Nope. I am a 40-year-old geek, and I don't see Kate being anything like what an adult Buffy would be. But it would be interesting to toss that idea out at a Buffy convention and watch the havoc. :)

I'm not sure if I'll read the sequel, but I would love to read a prequel. I think reading about a younger, childless Kate the Hunter along with her love, Eric, would be interesting. Maybe the author will do this later in the series? Of course, I'd love to read more about some of the peripheral characters like Eddie (LOVE him!), Cutter, and Laura, so I might be tempted to pick up the next in this series (looks like #4 comes out July 2008).

Anyway, thanks again for the opportunity to read this. I have yokaye's address and will ship this out within the next week. Enjoy!

I am SO sorry I have neglected to journal this and send it along! I finished it right before I left for a minivacation...and totally blanked about it when I got back.

I will contact hak42 and send it ASAP.

Now to get to the book finally. :)

I really liked this one. I agree that it's not highbrow deep-thought literature; but that is fine with me in this case. It's fun, sarcastic, light and surprising at times. I didn't mind the soccer mom details. To me it helped keep the story in balance - the contrast between the two worlds and the way one creeps into the other. (This from a karate mom, which is a cousin of the soccer mom. LOL)

Definitely would like to read on in the series, will get to the other(s) eventually, I'm sure. A good fun read, perfect for summertime lounging in the sun.
