Journal Entry 1 by BethanieKay from Melbourne, Florida USA on Tuesday, March 6, 2007
From Booklist.com:

What started out as a literary club composed of 40 law-firm employees who met at lunchtime to share their attempts at writing has devolved into four women who write erotica.

Aimee created the group to take her mind off the fact that she's pregnant and her husband is increasingly absent. Lux, a young secretary working her way out of her degenerate neighborhood, uses the club as a way to learn from the other women. Brooke attends in support of her friend Aimee, works part-time at the firm, paints, and has had the same boyfriend for 20 years. At 50, Margot is successful but realizes that she has no female friends.

Four very different women, who at first seem to have nothing in common, grow closer as each week passes--not that their relationships don't have problems--but therein lies the fun of reading Kovetz's sometimes raunchy but always entertaining account of four strong characters who become friends and, in the end, much more.

Journal Entry 2 by BethanieKay from Melbourne, Florida USA on Tuesday, March 6, 2007
I admit, I bought this book because of the intriguing title! I read the book in one day, and found it to be a fun and interesting story about four very different women who find friendship and common interest in the most unlikely place. Fair warning; Some parts of the book can be pretty racy, but I'm sure some of my fellow bookcrossers out there will appreciate it as much as I did! ;)

I want to send this book on a small INTL bookring, so will post on the forum and see who wants to play!

Well, this was truly a funny and entertaining book! I just zipped through in a few hours. The characters are fun, the story seems sometimes a little bit far fetched - but possible nearer to reality than we might imagine... And unfortunately, I think, we all do not have an "auntie Who-ah"... The sentence I loved most? "Well, Mom. I was masturbating, but then I realized that what I really want most is lasagna."

Journal Entry 9 by okyrhoe from Athens - Αθήνα, Attica Greece on Tuesday, April 10, 2007
It was a quick and pleasant read, but I didn't find the book that humorous, overall. Maybe because the storyline of Aimee's pregnancy was too 'heavy' in comparison to the farcical situations of the other characters. I wish there was more narrative tension between the women's fictional alters and their 'real' life situations, such as the one between 'Atlanta Jane' and her creator, Margot.

Journal Entry 13 by BethanieKay from Melbourne, Florida USA on Monday, September 10, 2007
Well, the bad news is that this book has been in the hands of the postal system for 3 months now, so I think it's safe to say that it's lost in the mail :(

The good news, however, is that the author of this book, Lisa Beth Kovetz is not only way cool, but she has "saved" this bookring! She saw my post on the forum in which I asked if any other Bookcrossers had a copy of this book to loan/give me so I could continue the ring ... and she actually personally contacted me to advise me she was sending me a signed copy of the book! How cool is that???

So, with the signed book now in hand, I am starting this ring anew, and will send it to spoiledrotten right away. I'm also going to post on the forum to see if anyone else wants to join. After all, with an author that cool, we owe it to her to spread the word and allow some more readers to experience her first book!

Thanks again, Lisa Beth!

A terrific fast-reading story. I'd love to find a group like this. The writing club quickly gets left behind for real life but part of it is always a background for these four women from different worlds. Isn't it funny, though, how in books like this, women-bonding books, one of them has a baby? Perhaps that's a reminder of one of woman's primary identities: the bearer of new life.

Thank you to bethaniekay and well as the author for sharing this wonderful book. Mailing to BunnyLady 10/1/07.

I read most of this on the flight between Portland and Houston, Tx on the way to visit my husband's family. I finished it very late the other night and felt it was well worth the missed sleep.

A very fun book to read, the erotic passages were amusing and fun diversions. I liked the character development and the evolving friendships between the women despite their huge differences in age and lifestyles.

I have fig1178's address and will be mailing this out from Houston in tomorrow's mail. Thank you for sharing and adding me to this ring.

Journal Entry 34 by seldombites from Mount Barker, South Australia Australia on Thursday, March 20, 2008
This is not the kind of book I usually read, but I was intrigued by the title so I decided to give it a go. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Very little time was spent on the actual stories in the writing club. Much more time was devoted to the lives and motivations of these four women. As with real life, each of these women came from different backgrounds and different life experiences, but they managed to bypass these differences and overcome hostilities and prejudices to form the lasting bond that is sisterhood.

I was warned this book might be a little racy and I suppose, if one isn't used to such things that might be true. However, as a person who enjoyed the 'Lucky' books and who counts Earth's Children among her all time favourite literature, I found the 'racy' bits quite tame. I did get a few laughs, though, and that's always a plus in a book. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a light but meaningful read.

I have emailed jjlanes to see if she wants the book while it is in Australia.

The autographed copy has made it to the Alps - such a nice resolution to the lost book syndrome! Seems like we should find some way of letting the author journal in, so she can read all the reactions. Anyway, aside from end of school year reports etc, I have two other rings in front of this, so I hope to get to it quickly. Otherwise it may sit pretty in the Swiss alps until I return early August - don't think I'd want to take a ring, especially an autographed copy, on the journey I have planned for July! I hope that's all right?

Journal Entry 39 by wingpenelopewanderswing from Saint-Loup-des Vignes, Centre France on Sunday, July 6, 2008
Ended up reading this more quickly than expected. It took me a bit of time to get into it, which I find is often the case with books which do a sort of collage of the characters (this is the second or third of this type I've read - Dirty Girls Social Club, for example). For me it became especially interesting when Lux meets Bill, maybe because I felt that in a quirky way they were the least conventional characters. I enjoyed reading this - thanks so much for making it available. In between packing for my trip I'll try to make it to the post office; if I don't this will travel further first thing when I get back.

I received this in mail on Saturday. I read the back cover, was very intrigued, and was just going to read the first few pages. Well, I finished the book and really, really liked it.

My favorite character is Lux. I loved that she was pulling herself up by her own bootstraps to make her way in life. I would have loved to read more about her and how she was recreating herself.

I hated Aimee. What a witch!

Brooke and Margot were the perfect foil for Lux and Aimee.

I would really like to author to revisit these characters and tell us more about all of them. I'd be interested to see where they all end up.

Thank you, BethanieKay, for another great book!

I have PM'd RCLoriH to see whether the address listed on RABCK.com is current (hasn't been updated in over a year). Once I've confirmed, I'll get this book moving.

Journal Entry 50 by Moody-Blue from Montrose, Colorado USA on Friday, December 26, 2008
I liked it -- really got into the characters. A few other thoughts:

A random cast of wildly different women that I'd guess were based on ladies the author knows personally. It's like a truth-is-stranger-than-fiction sort of thing.

Toward the end, the sunshine highlighing a golf trophy makes me wonder if Bill's mother was lying to him...

The best baby-birthing scene I've ever read.

February 27, 2009--I think I need to swear off of BookRings! I always seem to get bogged down on them! I really need to finish this one and get it mailed off.

February 28, 2009--Once I got into this again, I found myself fascinated by the relationships between the characters. I hoping to finish reading this today and have it ready to go, either to another reader or back to BethanieKay.

I just finished reading and got a PM from Valentina1209, who was skipped earlier in the ring, so the book will be off to her as soon as I can get it to the PO.
