I tried but I couldn't get into it.

Native Speaker is the story of a detective, Henry Park, who works undercover in New York City. He's a natural - quiet, watchful, secretive, distant. These were the traits he acquired as a child, the only Korean boy in an all-American suburb.

Picked up at the Leeds meetup. Looks like it might be handy for rootmartin's Passport to the World book box on bookobsessed.com

Giving up on this after 3 chapters. It's beautifully written but there's a constant feeling of sadness to it, which I started to find a bit oppressive.

Hm, not having much luck with books at the moment. Hopefully the next one I pick up will engage me.

This one's going to eicuthbertson some time next week.

Thanks! I agree it's a sad, sad book - and a bit 'slow' - however, lots to think about here - particularly given events.

I found this article (and some of the comments) interesting to read after the book: Chang-Rae Lee: Literary Hero or Exploiter? at Goldsea

Thanks, eicuthbertson! I'm a bit worried about this book now, after reading everyone else's comments!

And I'm another that just couldn't get into this book. I persevered to the end, but I just found it confusing and depressing. I don't get it.
