I really really enjoyed the earlier books in this series, and have been looking for this one for a while.
Which made this one very much a disappointment when I finally got it.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't very good. To start with the obnoxious-hate-to-read-anything-involving-her best "friend" Evie was in it from start to finish. A character the series does not need.
The entire story just seemed strung together and not finished. Del didn't do anything...she just kinda hung around. The ending also seemed...sudden and neat and she was just...there for it. Disappointing.
Also, what happened to the possible silver mine from the previous book? I thought maybe I had the books out of order, but given the ending (and the references to previous trip with Tony), I don't think so. It's like a character development was decided against after publishing and dropped?
It's not a horrible book, but is not up to the standards of the first five books in the series. The humor, plot, and just most of it was more silted/forced than before. The best description I can think of was an early draft that needed revision.
I'd highly recommend the previous books. This was merely ok.

After moving, I am re-evaluating what stays on my keeper shelf, and especially BX books. They need to be enjoyed, not gather dust.
