Received today, need to finish the book I'm currently reading (The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving, very good), then have another book on a ring/ray, and then it's round to this one. Oh yes, and revision for my finals.
Atwood is one of my favourite authors, but in my opinion this wasn't one of her best. In the Introduction, the author describes how many people have taken it as a feminist novel, and as feminism is an area I'm revising for my exams, I didn't need it to be in a book I was reading for pleasure! I also thought it was all a bit kind of wishywashy, and the main characters annoyed me. But were they supposed to? It was well-written, but the end wasn't as good as the beginning.
Will be posted on to KT-J later this week.

Received yesterday so I will be getting started on this once I've finished my current book.
Thanks Fluffy-Owl for sending it to me, and thanks platypussj for including me on the list :o)

I liked this book, it was a good read and I enjoyed the story. I was a bit unsure about Duncan's character as he didn't really do much, but the other characters were interesting and the story flowed well.
I haven't read any other Atwood books yet although I have a few so I look forward to reading them to see how they compare to this one.
kittycatts has asked to be removed from the bookring. This was posted to Elsita today (03/07/2007).

Sorry for the delay, but, as a BIG Harry Potter fan, I had to stop with this book and read Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows.
Now I'm back with this one...

A good book, I think, though I''m not sure if I really liked it.
The end is the best part, for me, I''d eat the cake eihter!
Going to JamsODonnellToo, as soon as I got his adress.

I'm reading this book at last, thanks everybody for your patience! I'm half-way through (loving it by the way ;) ), I'll get in touch with Sugaryfun already, so I can mail the book on as soon as I'm done. More soon.
UPDATE Nov 22: The Edible Woman is on her way to Australia, sorry it took so long to journal! I really enjoyed this book, sure one can tell it's an early work, but an early work from a great writer nonetheless! Thank you for sending this book around, and apologies for keeping it so long, *blush*

Oops, sorry about the delay- Missgonewest has asked to be skipped. Now PMing Hawkette.
Apologies once again for keeping it so long. I wound up with too much other stuff to read, and then forgot. It's on it's way now.
Has arrived with me in Melbourne. Atwood - always good! Thanks for sharing!
Not one of my favourite Atwood reads, with very high expectations from her other books - but this is her first! So quite cool to see where she started from!
Old fashioned, and a look at antiquated thoughts and practices - I found quite alarming actually! Perhaps just shows how far we have come! Like several of the other readers, I'm not sure I even liked Marian...but the Duncan diversion kept me reading, actually!
I have the next person's address, and will be posting on Monday.

Apologies for the delay in journalling.
Margaret Atwood is one of my favourites, and this lived up to the rest. It has some of the quirky out-of-body stuff that recurs in her later works, and the woman trying to make sense of the strange world around her. I enjoyed the datedness & especially her intro, in which she ascribes getting published at all to embarassment that they had lost her manuscript!
Thanks, Platypussj! Have PMed to get the next address.

Update: Pyjamas has finally got back to me and asked to be skipped, so have now contacted Maurean.
Update: this book is still in my possession, however I am trying to pass it along! Have had another request to skip & waiting for another address. Hopefully it will be on its way again soon!
I received this book in the mail today. I have a book in progress at the moment, but will get to this one asap!

At first I wasn't sure I was going to get into the story, but then I did, lol. Marion's sruggle with her inner self was intriguing, and at last the "edible" woman was revealed. Notifying the next in line. Thanks for sharing.

Received today. Will read ASAP.
My second Atwood book, after The Handmaid's Tale. Not a favorite of mine, I must say. I don't think I liked any of the characters that much (Marian, especially, was so dull), so I wasn't able to empathize with any of them. As Hawkette said, some of the outdated practices in the book, such as the assumption that Marian would quit her job when she married Peter, are quite shocking to a contemporary reader. At any rate, it doesn't put me off reading further in the Margaret Atwood canon.
Sent on to brewster13 in Canada to finish the ray.
