A Patchwork Planet

Bought secondhand in The Samaritans' Bookshop in Colchester - very cheap books!
Started reading it when I was waiting for my car at the garage... it immediately grabbed me more than Back When We Were Grownups.
Tyler is a good observer of human life, and portrays it well. Though I do think that any chap who thinks so astutely is a pretty rare breed!
I'm still in two minds about Tyler, though I've got a couple more in my stock box, and one is very skinny...
Taking to the Chelmsford meeting tonight, to see if anyone's interested.
"It was very good." She didn't give me a number of stars to give it!
I'm now gonna slip it into my TBR pile!
I'm also with Pakasanelly - strong start and middle but it petered out towards the end.
HERE BE SPOILERS!
Highlight from here...I had to read the last two chapters twice over as I finished it sleepily last night. From re-reading I'm surmising that Barnaby was breaking up with Sophia at the very end but I could easily be wrong about that. And he wasn't a man you could trust, either, especially as he never admitted to his relationship lapse. to here to read the spoilers!
SPOILERS END
I don't think I'll go out of my way to read anything else by Anne Tyler, unless they happen to come my way. Mum's reading Back When We Were Grown Ups right now but I might wait a while to read that!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Taking to the Sudbury Meet today!
I'm already a few chapters in - I need an easy read at the moment and this seems to be it.
Alternatively charming and irritatingly self-pitying Barnaby is a well written character. The black sheep of the family , who seems to sink into a depression of screwing things up when the slightest thing goes wrong, he's everything his family wouldn't wish for in their child.
In the end I wasn't sure that his choice to get on with the small stuff of life rather than "be someone" was something to be applauded or an indication of someone who would always run away from responsibility.
(lost a star for annoying ending)
