I finished this one several days ago and just realized I had not logged it - yet another book that almost slipped through the cracks of my disorganization. Dang. I like this series. It is plainly written and the author crams a lot of stuff into his books without a lot of other fluff. Precious is just that - Precious.

The book arrived by post yesterday, and when I opened the envelope I was so surprised with what came out of it.....not only the book but a lovely novelty pen, postcards from where ciloma lives, an IDAHO pin/badge on a lovely card with a friendly message inside the card, and a dreamcatcher! I felt like it was my birthday! Thank you so much ciloma! I know I will enjoy reading this book. It has gone in my pile of TBR books, and I can hardly wait to get to it!

I am afraid I forgot to journal this great book after I read it last year, but all hope is not yet lost!!! I am about to start reading this book again. I have a friend who wishes to read it soon, and so I thought I would read it one more time before passing it on to her.

Amazon Editorial Review: THE NO.1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY introduced the world to the one and only Precious Ramotswe - the engaging and sassy owner of Botswana's only detective agency. TEARS OF THE GIRAFFE, McCall Smith's second book, takes us further into this world as we follow Mama Ramotswe into more daring situations ...Among her cases this time are wayward wives, unscrupulous maids, and the challenge to resolve a mother's pain for her son who is long lost on the African plains. Indeed, Mma Ramotswe's own impending marriage to the most gentlemanly of men, Mr J.L.B. Matekoni, the promotion of Mma's secretary to the dizzy heights of Assistant Detective, and the arrival of new members to the Matekoni family, all brew up the most humorous and charmingly entertaining of tales. * TEARS OF THE GIRAFFE was selected as one of the GUARDIAN's top ten 'Fiction Paperbacks of the Year, 2000

Great book. I loved all the little stories over Mma Ramotswe's cases and the simpleness of the characters and their simple conversations etc. I love this author and the way he writes! What a lovely ending this book had about the tears of the giraffe. I rate this book with 10 stars.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

I am passing this book on to my friend Pam who is reading this series. She is not a member of bookcrossing at this present time. I am hoping she will leave a journal entry here. Pam will return the book to me after reading because I have someone else waiting for it, (motherof11 in Dalfsen).

By the way Pam, thanks for leaving a journal entry on the last book . It adds to the history of these nice little books.

Journal Entry 12 by chamonix44 at Almelo, Overijssel Netherlands on Thursday, January 27, 2011
On this bright, sunny, but bitterly cold day, I met my friend Pam for lunch in Almelo shopping centre. She gave this book back to me. Next week she goes on a two month holiday back to her homeland of New Zealand. So I won't see her again until April. I had planned on taking a photo of Pam giving the book back to me, but I forgot, and now all you will get here is a photo of my milky coffee that I had! (Notice that they didn't even fill my coffee to the top of the cup, yet it cost me €2.30!!)
This book will soon be travelling to motherof11 in Dalfsen, via her daughter. I just have to get that arranged now!
