Brick Lane: A Novel
4 journalers for this copy...
Wonderful, wonderful book. Well written
Sent to Tabby-Cat-Owner in postal trade today.
received in the mail from istop4books of Mankato, Minnesota. This book will be used to restart a stalled bookray that I organized. I've also read this book. It is very well written. It is unusual in that is about an arranged marriage between a young girl, Chanu from Bangladesh and an older man who lives in London. The book also tells the story of Chanu's sister who remains in Bangladesh.
Thank you, istop4books for sharing this book with us.

This book was very slow going for me when I first began reading it. I got about 1/3 of the way in, then stalled for months -- I contacted the next person in the ray and planned to pass it on without finishing it. But I didn't hear from the next person, and I overlooked the book on my shelf for a very *long* time. Finally, this past winter, I picked it up and thought I'd try it once more. This time around, I found the story very engaging and the characters clearly depicted, and I enjoyed reading the book through to the end.
By this time, though, I had forgotten that this book was a ray, and, the odd thing (a mind is a terrible thing to lose) -- I could have sworn that before I left for England in early May, I made a journal entry for this book saying that I planned to release it in London, either in the Brick Lane area or at Pax Lodge, an international center for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts -- and in making that entry, I was assured that the book was indeed mine to give away, having received it in a trade. So when I got home and decided to update my release, I was horrified to realize that I had received the book as part of a ray. I don't know where I did make that earlier entry, or even whether I actually did make an entry somewhere or just intended it so strongly that I thought I actually did.
So I requested a replacement copy through PaperbackSwap.com so I could continue the ray with a link here. But it turned out that after all that time, everyone following me in the ray had already read another copy of the book. So now the replacement copy, will be going out into the world somewhere.
I did release the original ray copy at Pax Lodge, and I'm hoping that someone will eventually journal it and perhaps take it off to release in a new country.
