I have given copies of this book to a lot of people, and so far it's been unanimous: they all love it and pass it along to other people.
The book is a fascinating look at statistics relating to crime, cheating, baby names, abortion. It's orignial and witty.

The book just dropped in the mailbox, with a beautiful bookmark. How lovely. Thank you, nordique!
An entertaining look into the hidden side of everyday life. A bit breezy and superficial at times, but interesting and funny. I enjoyed the section on parenting, although it seemed mostly echo Judith Rich Harris. The argument on the effect of legalized abortion on crime was certainly original thinking. I especially liked the conclusion:
"What the link between abortion and crime does say is this: when the government gives a woman opportunity to make her own decisions about abortion, she generally does a good job of figuring out if she is in a position to raise the baby well."
Thank you, Nordique! I'll ask in the next Helsinki area BC meet if someone else wants to read this.

My father picked this up to read.
Got the book back.
I got the book on a Helsinki BC meeting. How funny that it was registered in Paris, since I'll be going there this Saturday and was thinking of maybe taking this as aeroplane reading.
Thanks, seems interesting!

I read the book about two years ago (when I got it), and found it both interesting and quite entertaining. The I borrowed it to a friend who returned it just now.
Some of the themes were loaded, but the style of the book erased some of the discomfort. As a European reader I'm also probably a little detached from some of the US-centric issues explored in the book.
Personally I found the chapter on names and what they imply particularly interesting. It also explained some aspects of the American culture/American cultures I hadn't realised before.
