Classic Anne Tyler; with her usual rather feeble male protagonist who attracts a lovely woman.
A 5 star review from Amazon.co.uk:
"I was introduced to Tyler's work while studying American fiction and during a recent re-exploration of her writing started this novel. I read widely, very widely and I admire not just what a writer writes, but also how and Tyler is a genuis at the "how". She is a true artist at creating another world that so closely resembles our own, but of course is not. She takes acts of simplicity and imbues them with magic. She has that ability to create characters that we have all met before, in Our world, and can totally identify with. She breathes life into their supressed emotions and every day trials. There is only a few other writers that I have read who can do this and one of them is Raymond Carver. I strongly recomend her to lovers of good American fiction, she is up there with the best."

I got this book in a swap from readitswapit.co.uk... I mainly chose it for that reason, as I had never heard of the author... I am glad I did as I loved the book! After initially finding the main character tough to believe (as it is a female author writing a male narrator, and I wasn''t quite sure it worked) after I got into it, I couldn''t put it down... Anne Tyler asks some interesting questions throughout the novel and I think that will stay with me. Great ending, too. Have since acquired another of her books through a swap, and am looking forward to reading it.
I plan to put it back on my swaps list, and hope someone else discovers this fantastic writer!
