In one of the stories in this collection a character mocks those unenlightened people who like their fiction to have "A beginning, a middle, and an ending." I'm afraid I must add myself to that poor benighted group, because I found these mostly unstructured stories to be generally unsatisfying.
The writing was good, and there were some lovely character studies and interesting ideas, but almost all the stories left me feeling flat at the end, because they hadn't got anywhere - there was no "proper" structure to them.
Oh well, I'll never be literary.
