Finished this book a few weeks ago - read it for my bookclub. Loved it!

It is now going out to the Bookcrossers who signed up for GorgeousGlo's ring which sadly was stalled somewhere in Canada. I am going to PM the next person on the reading list for their address and can get it in the mail this week.

PM'ed acountkel and am awaiting her address.

Went out today via US Media Mail to acountkel.

This book is going out to help complete GorgeousGlo's bookring. To see the shipping order, please refer to this book title on GorgeousGlo's bookshelf. I'd put a link to it here but have no idea how that is done!

This book was not what I expected at all. The cover makes you think it’s about a young girl trying to figure out who killed her little brother. That is some of what the book is about, but there is so much more. Too much in my opinion. This was one of the longest books I ever had to get through. And for the first time in several years, I almost quit reading a book. It took till the middle of the book before it became remotely interesting to me. The story is about a family. A very dysfunctional family. It begins with the death of the son, Robin. He was found hanging from a tree on Mother’s Day back in the 1960’s in Alexandra Mississippi. Thus begins a long drawn out account of the Dufresnes family, with focus on the daughter Harriet. Harriet is an interesting character, very bold for her age. The Dufresnes family is broken since the death of Robin. The mother hides in her room and sleeps most of the day and the father has moved to Tennessee. If it wasn’t for Harriet’s grandmother and aunts, Harriet would be pretty much on her own. Intertwined with the story of the Dufresnes family is the Ratliff family. A family of boys who have gone down the wrong path in life. Harriet suspects that Danny Ratliff had something to do with Robin’s death so she is determined to seek revenge. The rest of the book is about how she does it and the result. This book could have been half of it’s length and still have kept it’s plot intact. There were too many places where I felt this book “was stuck in the mud”. If it wasn’t for the second half of the book, I would have absolutely hated it. However, I am glad I had the opportunity to read this. There are some parts that are memorable and has definitely left an impression on me.

Going to "ray it forward" and start a bookray to keep it going

Enjoy the book and send it on to the next person in line. One month seems reasonable to me but if you need to take a little longer, that's fine. Remember to PM each other for mail address and PM me if you have any questions or concerns. You know the drill....
Please journal when you have received the book and when you have sent it.

Since I am still recruiting interested readers ORDER MAY CHANGE. Also may change due to shipping preferences, so please double check order periodically.

Oh how I love well-written books! Donna Tartt is now definitely one of my favourite writers. Her characters are so superbly crafted, so totally believable in all their complexities. She makes you feel as if you are LIVING this story.

This is an unforgettable book, that continually surprises. Very enjoyable.

This is taking me a long time to read - I just couldn't get through it. I stopped and read 2 other books then continued again to find myself forgetting who is who in the story. I stopped a few pages into the Blackbird chapter. Will pass it on to others who may appreciate the book better.

Just received this in the mail today, thanks bearyfriend for shipping this to me and thanks for the pencil and the card, the building is really neat and I like the colors of it. I'm hoping that I will enjoy this one, I really like The Secret History it just took me a little while to get in its groove. I am planning on offering this up as a Ray or Ray-It-Forward after I complete it. I have a number of other books and RIFs in front of this one so I might be after the first of the year until I get to it. Thanks again for sending this to me.
