Passed along from a book club member.
This book is a memoir consisting of short, interconnected essays. Its title implies that it is humorous, which it is, but only in spots. The humor was often at the expense of another person's dignity -- including that of the author. I didn't find anything funny in the uncomfortable positions she often found herself in as a result of being Persian in an alien, often hostile and xenophobic culture. I did find her memories to be bittersweet, particularly in her fond remembrances of her warm relationships with her extended family. The irony of marrying into a family with which she has no relationship ... amazing. I loved her tale of journeying to Paris solo as a teen.
I'll be interested to read what others think about these vignettes.
