I picked this up in the Oxfam shop, as it looked interesting since I am about to take a 3-week holiday to Australia. To be read before going or on the plane....

I am so enjoying this book as I see Australia, starting at Sydney, then Newcastle, then later on to Uluru and Alice Springs. As I read on he is really philosophising about the concept of restlessness, and the need we have to travel and see other parts of the world, so it is good for reading here on my trip. I asked about the author in the Japanese Bookshop I visited in Sydney, and although they did not have a copy, one of the girls at the till had read it and enjoyed it, especially his style of combining commentary and philosophy with fiction.

Wrell this was more a philosophical treatise than a novel, but it was interesting to read his outlook on the Aborigines of Australia and the concept of 'wandering'. However, I spoke to some of the tour guides while in Australia and I'm not sure that his views are an accurate reading of the situation.

Anyway, I have released it to a fellow traveller on the shuttle bus from Ayers Rock airport to the resort. A Dutch guy who got bored with a conference he was on in Sydney, and booked a few days in Ayers Rock instead! I liked that! He seemed top be a professional psychologist of some sort, so hope he enjoys the book!

As you may reed I go the book from a Lady from Ireland, I am from the Netherlands. We started to talk about "australia down under" also a very interesting book. And then she handed me songlines. It is really interesting. Because it is about the aboriginals but at the same time about our ancestors. We could all look at it that way are we nomads or stayers?
I gave my book to another guy from the Netherlands in the airplane from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur. We were having a nice talk about live. I ordered a nw one in Dutch for myself and I send one to my sister in England.
