Kiss My Tiara: How to Rule the World As a Smartmouth Goddess
8 journalers for this copy...
One of my friends recommended this one, and I found it in the self help section at Borders. It is one of those powder puff power books that have become popular. It gives you advice on how to be a more powerful person in just about every facet of your life. I generally don't have problems with personal empowerment, but this is a bit of feel-good cheerleading that picks you up if you start to feel like your hormones are a hindrance. It does tend towards cliche, but cliches exist for a reason, and it's still refreshing. It's sort of a "so what?" response to modern feminism, and a middle finger to the conservative right.

I just got this book about a day ago, but I'm already pretty far into it. I really like what I've read so far.....
I received in the mail yesterday but could not journal till today, due to computer problems.
I have started it and I am planning on buying a bunch to give to my SmartMouth Goddess girl friends.
I will post after reading and when sending it on.
I like the quotes at the chapter beginings.

I am still reading it (along with another bookring book) and am liking it. I like its humor.
I have gone out and bought 3 copies and have given them to girl friends at work.
Will post more when done

I realy enjoyed the book. I liked that we should take to complaining to our representatives, and also that making an idiot look like an idiot is not only acceptable but reccommended.
Thanks Bassoony for starting the bookray

Received this sometime in the last two weeks amidst packing, moving, unpacking, being offline, and starting a new job.
Will add to the pile of rays I owe, and get through it as soon as possible.
Am truly looking forward to this one and am grateful to bassoony for the chance to read it.

Well, another book to purchase for the nieces and cousins as required reading before launching into their independent lives. The author’s grandmother was certainly a wise woman. Here are a few of her suggestions that wouldn’t hurt us to disseminate [my comments are bracketed below]:
“Hey, you’re the one with the pussy. What are you knocking yourself out for? Let ‘em get on their knees and beg.”
[in this day and age, we do not have to be the desperate ones, and they’d better do more than beg once they assume the position!]
“Once you’re dead, you have the rest of eternity to be skinny. So why start now?”
[overweight does not necessarily mean unhealthy...I’m sorry, but I can’t wait another two years to start trying for a pregnancy]
“If God hadn’t wanted us to touch ourselves, He would’ve made our arms shorter.”
[thank Goddess She was thinking]
‘...we women are harder on each other than anybody else.”
[as someone who’s had more female bosses than not, gotta say this is true]
Other quotes from the book:
“Real girl power lies between our ears.”
[getting this tattooed on my future daughter’s arm ;)]
“Think about the power and importance of cultivating your own personality and keepin’ it real.”
“It’s thanks to Eve that, instead of living like blind, infantilized playthings in a garden, we humans are morally conscious and capable of thinking for ourselves.”
[but I still feel gyped that Lilith got no mention in my Bible]
“We’ve inherited some incredibly hard-won freedoms from gals who came before us. And these priveleges don’t exempt us from their upkeep.”
“The fact that we’re human predisposes us to a certain amount of angst.”
[which doesn’t necessarily need to be medicated away--try all options before you declare chemical warfare]
Thanks again to bassoony for loaning this out. Apologies to all those despairing of my lag time. It's being mailed to mazel today.

Just received - I'm looking forward to it. Thanks!
I liked it, but I think I'm already a smart-mouth Goddess, so a lot of the advice didn't seem to apply to me....I think I need the advanced version! =)
Thanks for sharing this!

Received a couple of days ago and have already read about half of it - I agree with grover3d...I need the advanced version of this book!
this goes to the top of the TBR pile..am in the middle of one other book then will approach this..from skimming it I had a few pangs of being-too-old-to-want-to-be-a-smartmouth-goddess..I'm trying to keep my 7 year old from being a smartmouth god so why would I want to emulate smartmouthedness..sigh..
I'll get back to you on that...
4/1/04 - Yep, I will have to go with my original impression. I kind of feel like we're all too mean and mouthy to each other, like (earned) respect is out the window, etc. etc. I think I would have enjoyed this book more pre-kid, or maybe it's an age thing. I did use to be a smart-mouth goddess...but I'm so much happier now (and my karma's better..)

I recently checked out from the library and read The Beauty Myth, by Naomi Wolf, and thought this might be a good audience to which I could recommend such reading. This would qualify as the "advanced version" and it takes out a lot of the smart-mouth-goddess and gives it the foundation of powerful-individual-woman.
Since it was a library book, I can't register and send out as a bookray this great book, but it's one of those books that should be available at most libraries. I found it very empowering, more so than KMT, and I hope you all will look for it an read it.
