She is known as the woman on Bluebell Hill. To the drivers who have seen her, she is a mystery, a ghostly figure, searching for someone or something, yet never seeming to find them.

Coooooooooooooooooooool. I haven't finished reading but it is very intense right from the start.

This was an unusual book. It was simultaneously one of the best and one of the worst I've ever read. And, come to think of it, I'm not sure I can explain that.

The story is, at first glance, quite extraordinary. It's about the ghost of a young woman who has been wronged in love and is searching for her lost soul mate, not even sure whether he's dead or still living. Small moments like the unspoken 'I'm sorry I need to use you - you don't deserve it,' add a sense of foreboding.
And then it all falls apart. Nothing evil happens. Nobody gets used. The ending is a surprise twist which doesn't make any sense at all.
Again at first glance, the writing seems to be crap. There's so much over statement and so many unneccesary plot points that it feels like a short story that needed fleshing out to become the length of a novel. But then, considering the story the author had to work with, the style of writing might be less at fault than the plot.

It's fine, unless you think about it. When you do that, you notice all these bizarre unfitting bits of weird.

On our way up to the NZBC convention in Wellington, we stopped in Cheviot for a late breakfast. I was scouting out places in the tearooms to release a book, and spotted the pile of magazines by the window that looked like a good spot. But when I went to put my book down, there was one already there!

Very exciting to catch a book in the wild!

I passed the book on to lytteltonwitch, who was keen to read it.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Looked all around the container mall for a display of GPS equipment or compasses but even Kathmandu let me down.

Otakuu suggested that the shop called "Hunters and Collectors" would be appropriate for "The Seeker", so I left it behind a stack of jeans. I think she has played this game before :o)
