I read this book as I'm forever telling the children that they need to read the book before they see the film so I thought I'd better practise what I preach.
I have to say that I was disappointed, there were too many influences from other books and the narrative didn't move on quickly enough. I didn't care enough about any of the characters and the battle at the end bored me because I didn't really care whether Eregon and the Varden won or lost.
There were some good ideas but it is very obvious that Paolini is a young first-time author and only time will tell whether his writing will improve.
