The Bay of Noon: A Novel

Enjoyed The Great Fire and heard rave reviews for The Transit of Venus, so ordered this as well. The story of a young Englishwoman fleeing to Naples.
Very pleased to discover this in a big bag of books from Sharonann. I loved the Great Fire and this will be added to Mt TBR.
I really enjoyed this book with it’s descriptive prose.
An unexpected friendship arises in Naples between a young English woman fleeing her past (which we very slowly glean as the story unfolds) and a glamorous Neopolitan woman and her Roman director boyfriend. Jenny loves this friendship with Gioconda and Gianni and keeps it quite separate from her daily grind of work and blossoming relationship with Scottish man Justin.
The story became quite complicated as relationships unravelled. I even liked the loose ends which were not quite tidied up at the end.
Well written story of friendships and love, told from the perspective of looking back on the past.

I was travelling along the Canal du Midi in a group from New Zealand and found the book at a restaurant we had dinner at in Villepinte. I love Shirley Hazard’s books, so it was a great find. I loved it, and have left it at Le Palais, Belle Ile, so that another traveller can enjoy it. By the way, I’m Cathrine Ackroyd from Christchurch, New Zealand.
