Synopsis

"The weather in the city of High Scape is off the charts. It's snowing in the middle of summer, and the townsfolk are desperate for Shield Lee Mallorough and Source Shintaro Karish to fix it - which they can't do. But try explaining that to the angry mob... Meanwhile, there's a crazed killer targeting aristocrats. Karish has forfeited the Dukedom of Westsea to continue working as a source, but Lee fears that technicality won't matter to the murderer. It certainly doesn't matter to Karish's mother, who's bound and determined that he take the title. Only by working together will Lee and Karish be able to figure out the weather, catch the killer before it's too late, and most importantly... get rid of Karish's mother."

The duo has landed! More to follow....

Journal Entry 5 by Kyrissaean from Littleton, New Hampshire USA on Saturday, February 24, 2007
Finished last night!

This book has "middle of a trilogy" (or second in a series) written all over it. There was more character development, but at I never got that truly finished feeling from the plot. Part of the conflict has been left unresolved and other parts were quick to guess. There's plenty left hanging for another installment.

Characters are definitely Moore's strong suit, and her world building is solid as well. I noticed that in the first book and she's kept it up through this one. While I felt the plot of this second book was a bit slow to start and then too crammed at the end, I'd be interested to see where she goes with this storyline just because of Lee and Taro! I'm very glad not to have either one of their mothers, though!

Thanks so much for including me in these rings! PMing the next person in line now....

Well, i'm a couple days late with the journal, but better late than never. I finished and sent these out media mail on Thursday. I liked the first book, but loved the second. i kept wishing there was a third out there somewhere, but there's not...i checked. Hopefully there will be soon cuz i didn't want this one to end. I enjoyed the relationships and even laughed out loud a few times. Thanks for the bookring Shawnna.

I love the way that you can hear her inner thoughts, she is so caustic and sarcastic that she continued to make me laugh. This book left me with some unanswered questions and I would very much like to see a third one.

Thanks again for letting me join the bookring. I'll get these two in the mail pretty soon.

Edit April 30: Sent by air today to wyvernfriend along with Resenting the Hero

arrived today, looking forward to it.

The sequel to Resenting the Hero this is another fun read. This story brings some of the aftereffects of the first story and adds in some weird weather in High Scape, where they're based. The weather isn't really weird enough to make the ability of Source and Shield applicable enough, they're there to deal with disasters not more minor weather disasters. This is making the populace unhappy with them.

There's also a crazed killer stalking aristocrats. To add insult to injury both mothers are in town making the two heroes very unhappy.

Another fun read, I'd like to read more by this author.
