The Wonder Spot
2 journalers for this copy...
A readable and witty book...that I unfortunately didn't connect with very well. However, I noticed that there are a lot of people out there with this book on their wishlist so off it goes!
Wow, what an unexpected surprise! I love getting wish list books...
Thanks, Lisa!

Wow. This sat here for TWELVE years? This is exhibit #1 as to why I'm working so hard to catch up on the stacks that have been here. That's a VERY long time.
I groaned when I picked this up; I'd HATED The Girl's Guide to Hunting and Fishing with a passion I can't even describe. But I decided to give it a chance, and I'm glad it did, even though I'm not 100% certain what it's about. I mean, it's about Sophie and these relationships she has through her life, but there's not a lot at stake, there's not a lot of growth on Sophie's part... in a lot of ways, we'd call this bad fiction.
But at the same time, it's not. It's intriguing, and it'd make for an interesting book club discussion. Sophie's stories are complex, and there's a depth to them that you don't need to explore, but the book is better for it if you do.
Maybe if a copy of The Girl's Guide ever crosses my path, I'll try again. It's been a lot of years since it came out, and I know I've changed. Maybe I've got the perspective I need for that one, too.
