Andrew K. Stone's memorable writing has an appeal beyond his well-designed plots and unique character sketches. He writes with heart and no matter what subject he is tackling, he creates a believable world where characters give us insight into the reasons people make decisions in a variety of situations we may never encounter.
Colin "Birdy" Franklin is a homeless man seeking escape from society, only to find himself drawn back into a culture of survivors, working in a world they will never question. Birdy gives us a unique viewpoint as he sees the realities of street life and takes the opportunity to survive, even while he questions his position, worried he will become like his father. Throughout the story, we come to understand Birdy's father as much as his childhood.
