One of a set of books picked up at the excellent Transita day in Oxford organised by Lyzzybee and Molineux. Looking forward to reading it.

Quite a disturbing subject, but very well written. The family in this story are a lot closer than most families. The story jumps across and around time, which I found a little difficult to get used to at first, but the style suits the story. Will keep and offer to Weebly as part of her post operative reading pile once she finally has her op.

Thanks for my first TRansita book. I am in hospital last on list for my hip opp so I will try and start this book if I can concentrate.

Book Description
Greedy for experience but determined to be good, Flora Dunbar spends a lifetime seeking love, trying to build a future out of the wreckage of her past - an eccentric childhood spent in the shadow of her musical twin, Rory; early marriage to Hugh, a clergyman twice her age; motherhood, which brings her Theo, the son she cannot love; middle-age, when she finds brief happiness in a scandalous affair with her nephew, Colin.
"If you asked my sister-in-law why she hated me, she’d say it was because I seduced her precious firstborn then tossed him onto the sizeable scrap-heap marked Flora’s ex-lovers. But she’d be lying. That isn’t why Grace hated me. Ask my brother Rory..."

I did quite enjoy this book - but I was left with the feeling of what else can go wrong for them! This was definately a family who liked to 'keep it in the family' in every sense! I liked some of the characters especially Flora who really beat herself up about what she did in life when really Rory was the one to blame.

Sorry I just couldn't get into this book. I found the jumping about between years and characters too confusing. I have passed this on to a friend and hope she enjoys the book.
