Bought at the bookcrossing/transita day at Oxford town hall. So on to mnt TBR As this is a signed copy I will probably pc it after I have read it, but it will be available for ringing.

Teaching full-time and acquiring all the oddball kids in the new intake are only the first of Beth's challenges when Alan leaves her after 25 years of marriage. She also has to turn her untidy Cambridge house into a B&B to make ends meet and then counteract the effect of regular theatrical guests on her stage-mad teenage children. Alan doesn't even have the decency to stay out of her life. Instead he makes disapproving incursions back in with his saccharine-laden new partner. But Beth's real worry is lodger Owen Pendragon - a character actor with wicked hazel eyes, a quirky sense of humour and a tendency to walk around her home sexily damp in his bathrobe. With attitudes and lifestyles clashing, will Beth and Owen ever find common ground? All they can do is to take things 'stage by stage'.

I generally don't like novels with a heavily romantic storyline - so I suppose I half expected not to like this one. However it was a perfect light, feel good read for a bank holiday Monday. Beth is a lovely bubbly character, you instantly warm towards, while Owen the actor hunk, is funny, wry and very fanciable. I couldn't help but enjoy it - I loved all the theatrical details - it makes you want to up sticks and run away with a touring company.

This book is promised to Mallary in France - a huge Transita fan : ) and will be on its way sometime this week.

Many, many thanks for sending this!
I can't wait to read it, in fact, I only have one page left of Coast to Coast so I will start this tonight!
Also I'll ring it after I've finished.

I absolutely LOVED this book!
Great storyline, great characters and perfect ending. Heaven-Ali was right - it does make you want to run off with a touring company, such is the vividness of the descriptions of the theatre. I imagined Owen to be rather like Clive Owen in looks; dark and brooding. Beth is so easy to warm to and although you really want to dislike Doone, she makes it almost impossible to and by the end you felt her heart was definitely in the right place. Congrats to Jan Jones - wonderful book!

This book is now available as a bookring.

Received from Greece today. Thanks very much. I am in the middle of reading a book just at the moment but will start this one as soon as possible. But what did Silver Greece think of it??

Journal Entry 12 by Midlifecrisis from St. Austell, Cornwall United Kingdom on Sunday, August 05, 2007
I am sorry to buck the trend, but I really didn''t rate this very highly. I enjoyed Beth and her love affair with the dishy Owen, but could not identify at all with any of the other "cast members", who just seemed like padding. I found myself skipping large chunks of text the further I progressed with the book. But thank you anyway for the chance to read this. I will pm WelshHelen for her details.

Journal Entry 13 by WelshHelen from Ponthenri, Wales United Kingdom on Sunday, August 19, 2007
Arrived last week but with my limited internat access I''ve only just got round to journalling it - sorry. Thanks for sending on, Midlifecrisis. I do have a few ring books ahead of this one but I should get to it fairly quickly.

Journal Entry 14 by WelshHelen from Ponthenri, Wales United Kingdom on Thursday, October 18, 2007
First of all, many apologies for hanging on to this book for so long. I actually finished reading it about 3 weeks ago but just haven't got round to posting it [blush]

I *loved* this book, especially the way the characters came to life so quickly. Like Heaven-Ali, I really fancied Owen [grin] and genuinely liked all the other characters (well, the ones we were supposed to like, anyway!) It was so refreshing to come across a female character who wasn't desperate to have a man around (loved Beth's very pragmatic attitude to Alan) which is probably why I enjoyed the book so much.

I think I'd enjoy reading this one again in a few years' time, which is a prety good recommendation [g]

I have Cross-patch's address and hope to post on to her tomorrow. Thank you so much for sharing, mallary and many apologies for not sending it out sooner.

I'm afraid I've been away for a few days and found this book when I came home tonight. It is safe here and I'll read it soon - sounds like a book that may lift my mood - good!

Journal Entry 17 by wingCross-patchwing from Leicester, Leicestershire United Kingdom on Saturday, November 17, 2007
Well, it worked for me. No, it wasn't high literature (what's that?) but I fell into the pages eagerly and wasted a good few hours yesterday with Beth and company when I should have been doing housey things. Thank you everyone for getting it here.

I've just posted this book to birmingham-rose.

Journal Entry 18 by birmingham-rose from Burntwood, Staffordshire United Kingdom on Sunday, November 25, 2007
Arrived yesterday, will be my next book to read. I've just had a PM from Cross-patch regarding this book as I forgot to journal it yesterday, it took a week to get to me, Royal Mail should be ashamed!!!

Journal Entry 19 by birmingham-rose from Burntwood, Staffordshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 06, 2009
I've found this book amongst a huge pile of 'missing' books that got lost in my house move. I am very sorry for the hold up and will get this onto my TBR pile - it will be book number 2 following my current read.

Journal Entry 20 by birmingham-rose from Burntwood, Staffordshire United Kingdom on Tuesday, January 27, 2009
I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy this book. The characters were believable and the love affair between Beth and Owen was 'cute'. But I'm afraid it didn't rate too highly with me. I see there are some mixed views on this book. I hope the book continues its journey. I'm about to PM caroline080 to send this onto her. Sorry again for the extreme hold up on this but it will be off before the weekend.

Thank you it arrived safely, will add it to the pile of to be read asap.

Journal Entry 25 by Inver from Aberdeen, Scotland United Kingdom on Monday, May 25, 2009
BonnethillBunny passed this on to me at the weekend. She had to give up on it I'm afraid, work commitments at the moment and is very busy with the season starting at Pitlochry theatre.

24/5/09 ~ Started reading
27/5/09 ~ 50 pages in and am afraid I am finding this boring and won't finish it. I don't like any of the characters I'm afraid. Maybe I am just not in the mood for this kind of read. Contacting next on the list for address.

Journal Entry 26 by Inver from Aberdeen, Scotland United Kingdom on Wednesday, May 27, 2009
pammykn has already read this one and asked to be skipped. I am now contacting penelopewanders.

This actually arrived yesterday, but as I was laid up with a sprained ankle it was a quick read. On the whole I enjoyed it, although I sometimes found the pacing of the writing too brittle. Of course I too am now ready to go off and join the show - sounds like such fun. Thanks for making this available - looks like it returns to Mallary next?

Journal Entry 29 by Mallary from Ginestas, Languedoc-Roussillon France on Sunday, June 14, 2009
After nearly 2 years of travelling, this book has finally found its way home.

Thank you to everyone who kept this book moving and for participating in one of my first bookrings and making it successful!

I'm feeling quite emotional to have it home now after so many people have enjoyed it.
This, I feel, is the true beauty of bookcrossing.

I'm now going to search the wishlists and find a new home for it.
Thanks everyone.
