Caught at the meetup. Highly recommended by Jaguar ... oh the pressure, so many books, so little time!

Wow! This was a facinating read. The author is a slow starter and I almost put the book aside after the first few pages as the content was very confusing and it did not really seem to be the kind of book that I would enjoy. Luckily fellow BXer maesul PMed me to find out if she could get hold of the book after I'm done and gave another of Neal Stephenson's books a rave review. So I perservered for a few chapters and found myself so wrapped up in this fascinating world that I had to finish the book in one sitting!

*****Spoiler alert*****

The book had some interesting theories about the fable of the Tower of Babel. I will have to do some digging (excuse the pun) to find out if anything that was said about the ancient Sumerian language and the various religions that stemmed from the Sumerians are based on archaeological facts. I love his vision of the future America and I do not think that is too far off in a world where commercialism is rampant. The premise of the Metaverse (a natural next step for the internet) also sounds very plausible. And I am sure there are very rich people out there that does have a god-complex strong enough to want to rule the entire world and who will stop at nothing to reach that goal. This was an all-round great book, don't be put off by the rather slow beginning!

Will send it to maesul soon ....

This book was sent to me from a fellow BookCrosser ages ago, and I managed to lose it the minute I received it. Oops! Found it behind the bookshelf this weekend. I'm excited! I'll be diving into it in the next couple of days...
