This was an interesting book. It was more than the story of a dog - it was a memoir of a colonel's experiences in the Iraq war and what it is like to return to normalcy. Quite interesting.

This will be going to a new reader soon!

I finished the book last night and really enjoyed it. It makes be both mad and sad to hear about all the horrible things that happen to animals over there. Off to go spoil my dog and cat now...

My boyfriend is going to read this book now and then I'll get it in the mail to boogal.

Journal Entry 7 by chambejd from Millbury, Massachusetts USA on Sunday, June 17, 2007
My boyfriend finished the book yesterday morning. He thought the book was "a very heart-warming story." I'm not sure if he is saying that sarcastically since he is giving me a sly smile as he says it, but I do know that he enjoyed the story.

I put this in the mail to boogal yesterday afternoon (6/16).

Journal Entry 9 by CharmedKim from Secaucus, New Jersey USA on Sunday, August 26, 2007
I finally finished reading this one and I'm sorry that it took me so long to get through. It's actually a pretty quick read, with its short chapters and interesting narrative. At first, I was a little hesitant to read it after seeing KarenZero's comment that "it was a memoir of a colonel's experiences in the Iraq war and what it is like to return to normalcy." Stories about war are difficult for me to read. But, I'm glad that this book was more than just about Lava getting to the US; I think the colonel's experiences made it complete and his love for Lava is touching. The fact that so many people worked togehter to help Lava get to California is incredible.

This will be sent tomorrow to texaswren.

Sent today to texaswren by first-class mail, since I kept it for so long. *blush*

Journal Entry 11 by TexasWren from Hillsboro, Texas USA on Tuesday, September 4, 2007
It's arrived safely. I'm currently without a book, so the timing is perfect!!

PS. Not really "without a book", just without a book in progress. Just wanted to clear that up. ;-)

Journal Entry 12 by TexasWren from Hillsboro, Texas USA on Saturday, September 15, 2007
While this was probably not the best written book of 2007, it will rank as one that tugged my heartstrings the entire time. I learned things about this war that I didn't know before--and wish I didn't know now.
But, it was a lovely story of heart, and pulling together, and an adorable dog.
A wonderful story!
Thank you so much for sharing it.

I have mailed it on to the next person.

Journal Entry 13 by Jumieges from Gordonsville, Virginia USA on Friday, September 21, 2007
Thanks for sending it! Picked it up today and will get to it as soon as I'm done with the book I'm reading now.

Agreed, while this book isn't one of the best written, it certainly was a pretty good read, and a lesson in teamwork. Off now to the next reader.

Lava the dog has arrived!! Look forward to a good time snuggled up with him.

I enjoyed the story, although it feels like I can read about it in a few-pages news article without missing much. Lava is one adorable, and very lucky dog, and his story provides a different take on the horror of the war. However, it keeps me wondering: in this vast world, how can we be judges of who and what to save? Who is to say that it is too much effort to bring a dog all the way around the world, when so many animals here need a home? Is a dog less deserved to be saved than an Iraqi orphan?

I haven't heard back fm Lati2de so I will follow up with another pm requesting address.

11/12: Lati2de has read this already so this will be heading out to AgnesXNitt.
