This is book 3 in David Eddings' series "The Malloreon," which is itself a continuation of the series "The Belgariad". Unfortuately, the second series is really just a repeat performance of the first, with the characters rehashing some of the same jokes, the same intrigues. However, if you like Fantasy, the books are still worth reading, because they reveal more about Polgara and Belgarath, two popular characters in Fantasy fiction
