Garnet Lacy, who is hiding from the witch-slaying Vatican agents known as the Order of Eustace, and who wants no more supernatural help from interfering Lilith, figures it's best to hide in plain sight, so she acquires a job managing an occult bookstore. Eschewing magic to stay undetected by the agents (and also because her cat familiar is allergic to it), Garnet has no desire to hook up with anybody the least bit magical, until Sebastian Von Traum walks in looking for mandrake root. Because Garnet can see auras, it is obvious that Sebastian is a vampire. But he is also a witch who achieved immortality along with the ability to not fry in sunlight. The Vatican wants his formula, his eternally adolescent vampire son may be in cahoots with them, and another vampire has taken up residence in Garnet's home along with Lilith.

I just finished reading the book. I think it´s exciting and witty and sexy. Theres no painting black and white (as in "good" guys and "bad" guys). Everybody has motives for what they are doning (even the adversarys of the main charakters) and there is nothing easy and straightforward as in some storrys where it is always obvious whats supposed to happen next and what people should do. Everybody makes mistakes - and the kind of mistakes one is likely to commit in "real life" (ok perhaps worse). The end comes about a bit fast, but it´s not a wondrous constructed ending but believable (inside the logic of the book). It leaves the option of a sequel (I would go as far as saying it suggests one). I liked the book - it somewhat reminds me of another book I read lately (but in german: "Bittersüße Tode" by Laurell K. Hamilton) but it is a bit better (less complicated and thereby easyer to read and more witty).

I put the book into the postbox during my midday break. I hope it has a fast and save journey to ParadizeApple. Thanks a lot for the ring - I enjoyed it very much!

The book arrived a few days ago, I just didn't have the time to journal. Christmas, you know...
But after Cristmas I have a few days off, perfect time to read this book.

I loved the book! I think it has everything a good book need. It is funny, erotic, intresting and it has a special humor which is very ironical. I love this combination.
Actually the book is traveling to tiger-kuh-katze. I wish you as much fun as I had.

Rudel, immer nur Bücher in Rudeln - echt, seit heute komm ich mir langsam vor wie in einem Zombiefilm. Der einsame Held eingeschlossen und vor seiner Tür lauern täglich mehr und mehr ;-)

Nein, es macht mir nichts aus und ich bin an sich auch ein schneller Leser - wenn ich Zeit habe. Und leider muss ich ab Montag wieder ran an den Unikram. Aber ich weiß ja von Mary Janice Davidson (Undead and...) bereits, dass Bücher wie dieses sich leicht an einem freien Tag durchlesen lassen - und lernen muss ich noch bis Ende des Jahres, da paßt TDaD locker dazwischen...

ganz netter Vampir-Hexen-Roman, allerdings in meinen Augen eher besserer Durchschnitt: so zwischen 6 und 7 Sternchen. Die Charaktere sind zwar sympathisch, aber irgendwie nicht richtig tief ausgebaut. Bin mal gespannt wie das nächste Buch von ihr ist. Noch animiert es mich nicht zum Kauf für den Eigenbedarf - und ich kaufe oft wahllos, nur weil es sich um Vampirgetier handelt ;-)

Edith sagt noch: ich will wissen, wie es mit Parrish weitergeht - der war mir echt sympathisch!!! Dieser hier darf in die Vampirbox, sobald sie hier eintrifft

Arrived together with my Willkommen in der EU ... Transylvanien bookbox. A vampire named Sebastian Von Traum? How funny is that? *giggles* I HAVE to read this!

Vampires, witches, Vatican witch-hunter assassins ... all in one book! A protagonist that scores 87 points at the Mary Sue test ... Come one! Why do I still read this kinda chunk?

And I know one thing for sure: Real witches do not come in covens. Ever.

That was quite fun, although I had the feeling the author had one or two chats with "famous" Silver Raven Wolf *g*
That was way too exaggerated to take too serious but in comparison to other magic/wicca/pagan novels one of the better researched ones.
But why should witches not come in covens? I'm sure there are enough at least in the good old US of A. It is surely nothing to be bothered about.

The book also had an educating effect - I learned one or two new words :D
e.g. "to freeload" - "schmarotzen"
I recently came across the word but I was too lazy to look it up since I still grasped the context but when I met it again in the book I took the time an searched the dictionary...

Arrived safely today and I started to read immediately.

Ich schreibe jetzt einfach mal in Deutsch, da ist es einfacher, meine Meinung kundzutun. ;-)

Also ich habe das Buch an einem Tag gelesen: es war nett, aber auch nichts Besonderes. Ich fand den Hexen-Aspekt sehr nett, aber die Vampire - also bitte. Ein Vampir, der sich selbst durch ein Elixir erschaffen hat? Und mit seiner nicht toten, aber auch nicht lebendigen großen Ex-Liebe im Gepäck? Ein Dhampyr-Sohn, Hexenjäger aus dem Vatikan und ein Vampir, der gegen Geld Bisse plus Sex verkauft? Naja, also bitte... Besonders herzlich lachen musste ich über den Namen des Helden: Sebastian von Traum. Und das kennzeichnet ihn laut Autorin als Österreicher. Wow, ich finde das immer lustig, wenn ausländische Autoren sich an deutschen Namen versuchen. Schon sehr spaßig! ;-)
Die Figuren waren nicht allzu tief ausgebaut und schon sehr stereotyp. Parrish fand ich irgendwie ganz nett, Sebastian eher nicht und seinen Sohn schon gar nicht. Garnet hat mir auch gefallen, besonders ihre Schwierigkeiten mit ihrer Katze Barney und "ihrer" Göttin Lillith fand ich amüsant.

Insgesamt war es ein nettes Lesevergnügen, nicht schlecht aber auch nicht richtig gut. Wenigstens war es kein PMHV, das ist schon mal sehr gut und Humor hat auch durchgeblitzt. Das Ende fand ich dann doch sehr offen, gibt es da eigentlich noch weitere Bände?

Grundsätzlich fand ich die Idee nicht schlecht. Trotzdem bleibt bei mir irgenwie das Gefühl, dass man mehr aus der Kombination Hexen-Vampire hätte machen können.
Das Buch war okay, aber für mehr als 6 Sterne reicht es nicht.
