Holes
2 journalers for this copy...
I have acquired two copies of Holes, the 1999 Newbery Medal book, and I've decided to bookcross one of them. I haven't read this book yet, but as it's a Newbery Medal winner, I expect it to be good. After reading the book, I think I might see the movie, but I want to read the book first. Here's what it says on the back:
Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnats. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention centre, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day, digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.
It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment-- and redemption.

To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to reading this as much as I'm usually looking forward to a Newbery winner, but I really did like it! It was a quick read, which is probably partially because it was so hard to put down! It has a good story, good characters, and some neat little twists and turns-- some of which I expected, some of which I did not expect.
I hope whoever has this next likes it, too!
This book is on its way to rapturina in the Netherlands! She accepted it from me in an old fashioned book-relay on bookobsessed.com! Rapturina, I'm so sorry this is so late, but I hope you love it once it gets there! :)

I love it when I had completely forgotten about a book coming my way and it suddenly turns up on my doorstep! :D Thanks! It's going straight to Mt TBR for now, but hopefully I'll get to it soonish.
Finally got around to reading this, sorry it took so long... It was a quick read indeed, and I quite enjoyed it! It took me a while to get into the story as the premise of it just wasn't really my cup of tea, but as the story evolved I was getting very curious about how it would end and what was going on, and I finished the rest of the book in one go. :D
This book is no longer on my bookshelf, no idea though where I released it... I probably gave it to a friend or left it on a public bookshelf. If you have it, I'd love to hear where you picked it up, haha!
