My history with this issue

I bought this bok in the 1$-section of the second hand books at Wellington Market, in Wellington, New Zealand.

About this book

A team of seven agents, mainly British, set out to free a captain from Scloss Adler, a stronghold of the German Gestapo, high in the alps. The German´s chemical torture gets everyone into talking and this captain knows top-secrte war plans. And this is about everything in this book that is straightforward. The plot twists and turns and you can be sure of nothing.

My comments about this book

I found this book quite interesting The desire to find out who was on which side in the end kept me reading and helped me endure the long, dangerous scenes on the cable car which only at the beginning were gripping but became boring through constant repetition. Other means of fighting and surviving also began to repeat themselves. So I mark this book down for stretching out a bit but give it high marks on the story idea itself. After a while I had no idea who was on whom´s side, which, I suppose, was the author´s intention. Everytime there seemed to be an explanation for what was going on, it turned out to be yet another fake explanation to convince someone that Smith ( the leader) is on there side. Until finally, finally on the last few pages we have the solution and I can put the book aside, content on having enjoyed many plots and sub-plots to arrive at the solution and justice.:-))

As a German reader I also enjoyed the German expressions inbetween. Although I have to say that in correct German it should be: “Gott im Himmel” rather than “Gott in Himmel.” :-)
