Book Description
When a Victorian scientist propels himself into the year a.d. 802,701, he is initially delighted to find that suffering has been replaced by beauty, contentment, and peace. Entranced at first by the Eloi, an elfin species descended from man, he soon realizes that these beautiful people are simply remnants of a once-great culture—now weak and childishly afraid of the dark. They have every reason to be afraid: in deep tunnels beneath their paradise lurks another race descended from humanity—the sinister Morlocks. And when the scientist’s time machine vanishes, it becomes clear he must search these tunnels if he is ever to return to his own era.

I can't believe I haven't read this until now. I remember my dad recommending H G Wells to me when I must have been between 12 and 14, but despite having copies of this and The War of the Worlds in the house, I never read either of them. The Time Machine was a delight to read - it's amazing that it was written in 1895 as it stands as a work of Sci-Fi as well now as it must have done then. Short but satisfying, I loved the descriptions of the different human descendants and the idea of the human race "evolving" to these two types was scary but utterly believable.
Thanks again for sending this to me!

I put this in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Virtual Book Box on BCUK Extra and GingerBoy chose it, so it will shortly be travelling to him. Enjoy!
I received this today as part of the Fantasy / Sci-fi VBB.
Many Thanks,
Many Thanks,
I found the way this book was written a little hard going at first, but I found once I got into it, it was great.
I suppose that in my mind I could see the highly polished film, whereas the book, in unabridged form, requires an amount of imagination.
I will see if anyone on the wish lists wants this one...
