A collection of 17, ah, enhanced autobiographical essays. Smart, wry, and sometimes just a wicked hoot. Not for every taste, but those that like him, like him a lot. I do.
Library Journal says:
"Sedaris ... has fashioned a funny memoir of his wonderfully offbeat life. To call his family "dysfunctional" would be enormous understatement and beside the point; Sedaris's relatives and other companions become vital characters on the page...Sedaris's humor is wickedly irreverent but not mean."

This is a collection of autobiographical essays that are supposed to be hilarious. Unfortunately while I did find a couple amusing, hilarious they were not.

Sedaris has led a very offbeat life and most of the essays evoked sympathy rather than humour. I also found Sedaris to be rather full of himself. To be honest, I am not a fan of short stories and that might have been a bit of the problem.

David Sedaris grew up in an incredibly odd family and, as such, has some incredibly odd stories to tell. Naked is a series of short essays about Sedaris' life, however I felt that it almost read like a novel rather than short stories because the stories weren't overly disjointed.

For the most part, the stories were pretty interesting. That being said, they were so off-the-wall that I was always questioning whether or not they were truthful or not. I wasn't laughing out loud at anything, however overall it was ok.

My mom, AceofHearts, passed away from breast cancer on September 17, 2013. Aside from being one of the best people I know, she was an avid reader and took immense pleasure in Bookcrossing, her book club, and reading many great books.

I will be releasing this in my mom's memory.
