Too Far Gone

A complex mystery, starring FBI agent Alexa Keen and New Orleans detective Michael Manseur. Refreshingly free of simplistic romantic entanglements, instead blessed with some interesting characters, not least of whom are the villains.
The setting is New Orleans during the build-up of Hurricane Katrina. The story is the abduction of a man who married into a rich and highly influential family.
This one didn't merely pass the time for me. I actually became involved in the characters and the events, to the extent that I worried about them when not reading.

On a table inside Starbucks
I found the book while doing research at Starbucks. Sourrounded in books myself, the bagged book caught my eye. The sticker that said "I'm free" caught my interest. I picked up the book and guiltily stuffed in in my bag. I asked myself, "Do you really need this book? Would it be better off in the hands of someone else?" After some deliberation, and a glance at the information about Book Crossings, I decided to keep the book in my possession. Maybe I could take it somewhere no one would. We'll see.
