Received it in todays mail. Wow! That was quick.
I've already read the introduction and am curious to read more.
Thanks a lot, Colanne!

Thanks a lot, Colanne!
Finished this book last night.
At first, I wasn't impressed very much. I had heard lots of people rave about it but I couldn't see why. I thought the language wasn't very eloquent and even though the 'story' was nice, it wasn't something I really, really wanted to read on. But as it was nice enough I kept reading and grdually, the book grew on me.
My sentiments towards it changed so much that I just went and orderede my own copy.
And strangely enough, I somehow want to learn more about physics! Yes, I, the person who hated her physics classes while in school, wants to know more about it. :-D
Thank you, Colanne, for letting me read this absolute fab book!
I'll send it to IoJima as soon as she returns home from her holidays.

Arrived safely, thank you.
My husband says there's not a lot of science, but Feynman's mind is fascinating.

Apologies Iojima, this arrived safely the other day I've just not been terribly organised ...
Looking forward to reading it, but not sure where on TBR it is until I sort the mountain which I will do this afternoon if this spurt of energy lasts that long.

As someone who at one time depended on Volume III of the Feynmann lectures in Physics, I too was rather disappointed in this at first, again mostly because of the style: loosely linked anecdotes told in short sentences with sudden changes of subject and a very informal lexus. All this of course because they are basically transcripts of stories told to a friend. While this explains it, I still felt like I was reading something produced by one of my (better) students.
Some of the stories are part of the Feynmann legend, others were new to me and equally as interesting.
So, overall, an entertaining read, but not as satisfying as I had anticipated.

The label is printing as I type and it will be in the post box en route to dolph1n before it is emptied this evening (I hope!).

It arrived this morning and I started it over breakfast. It seems to be written in a similar style to the one I use. As a 40year old studying O-level English I was constantly told that my writing style was child-like, using short sentences and jumping all over the place. The tutor read my essays out more often than anyone else's though so maybe he secretly liked 'childlike'. I think I will enjoy this book.
I found this a very enjoyable read and finished it quite quickly. I knew I would like it as it covers my two favourite subjects, maths and physics. I knew quite a bit about Feynman already but there was plenty in there that was new to me. It was a fascinating insight into an amazing mind.
This will be on its way to Ron, in the morning.
This book has actually been here for a while already, but I didn't manage to journal it before I went on holiday. At the moment, I'm working on two different books, so it may take a few days until I get to it. Can't wait though...
I'd like to say it was inspiring, but that's not the right way of describing the book, even though reading in coincides with moving out of the middle-of-the-Ph.D. sip (but coincides is probably all that it is).
It was certainly very enjoyable. The love the Feynman so obviously felt for science is just beautiful; I am so jealous of the people that had courses taught by him! And I really loved how he was completely impatient with all kinds of bureaucracy and hypocrisy. He must've been the true scientist: give him a problem to solve and stay away!
Yet, he's slightly annoying too! How can anyone succeed so well in everything that he does (although, I must immediately add that he's very good in saying that sometimes he was lucky, no more)? I guess it makes sense; after all, who'd tell the story of himself failing miserably at some sport or so? But still, at times I couldn't shake the feeling that he's an utter git.
All in all, I did certainly enjoy it, and overall my regard for Dr. Feynman has only increased. We need more scientists like him! Thanks for letting me read this, Colanne!
I'll get escapee3's address presently and will try to send the book of as soon as I can.

The book will be moving on a little later today!
Book arrives safe and sound in Liverpool. Many thanks for the opportunity to read this... I've been looking forward to this one for some time.

Firstly, my apologies for not reading this as quickly as possible—I’m in the middle of a writing period, and writing to a deadline, so I’m a bit pushed for time.
I loved the book. It has a light, fast-paced style that come from it being largely a conversational piece recorded over the years. Of course, that means it’s not an in-depth biographical study of Feynman, so if that’s what you want from this book then it may disappoint. But, as a whimsical trail of anecdotes and thoughts, it makes for an entertaining read.
Thanks for including me in the bookring.
The book is now (Sat 24th May) winging its way first class to bigcurlyloz.

I've tried getting into this a couple of times but I'm obviously not in the right mood/frame of mind for it. Maybe I'll get hold of a copy sometime in the future and give it another go. I have nuttymum303's address and it will be on its way to her in the next week. Thanks for the opportunity though Colanne!
