Sabine Dardenne was kidnapped on 28th May 1996, at the age of 12, by Belgian paedophile Marc Dutroux, and held captive until 15th August that same year in a tiny, dark cellar room, let out only occasionally to do chores around the house and be subjected to vile treatment from him.

Although of course I feel desperately sorry for what Sabine had to endure, and it would be almost vouyeristic to know more about what went on as she was held by her captor, like a lot of so called 'misery memoirs' I found this to be more just a list of what went when on, I often feel after reading these books that they need some 'fleshing out'.

This book is to be released as part of jirika's October: Autumn Challenge, Week#4....topics dealing with darkness and melancholy, loneliness....and this book certainly fits the bill.

In the condom machine in the ladies toilets

Journal Entry 3 by wingAnonymousFinderwing on Friday, May 4, 2007
picked it up in the ladies loo in sainsburys in Rugby and since I live in london have read it on the bus on my commute into central london

i would not have bought this book but made an effort to read it. i was concerned that it would contain gratuitous gruesome detail. In fact i found it easy to read and it is not salacious and the horror comes out. the author is self effacing and rather engaging and the insight into the Belgian paedophile scandal interesting.
