A most disturbing read. Once past a certain point in the story, you can see what is happening but Sally is so deep down in the mire, she hasn't a hope. This book stayed with me for a while - I have no personal experience, but what Douglas Kennedy describes of Sally's experiences in hospital sound convincing.

This book was not at all what I'd been expecting. From the cover blurb and the first few chapters, I'd sort of expected a political thriller full of dark and secret conspiracies. Instead, the conspiracies turned out to be of a domestic nature, yet perhaps the darker because of that. About a third of the way through the book, once what was happening began to emerge, the story became completely gripping, and I couldn't put it down.

This book was amazing. Written by a bloke, yet it portrayed the horrors of post-natal depression and early motherhood so well that I found myself reliving my own experiences. The book moved me to tears more than once and I still can't get some of it out of my head. Things that I had forgotten have resurfaced and now must get unpacked and dealt with. Many times throughout the book I felt like the author was writing my story. I finished reading it a couple of months ago and it has taken a while before I could face journalling it.
