Picked up at the meetup. Haven't read any of Nick Hornby but read plenty about him. Seems popular may give this one a go. Unread.

I really was enjoying this till it sort of fizzled out to an indeterminate point. However, I do recommend it as there are some truly magical moments in it, and it has to be pointed out that the ‘fizzle out’ was planned – I expect to echo life’s fizzles! Maybe the slight let down for me arose in that there were a good few more hefty issues raised than could ever be well examined. Realistically though, would I have sat down to an exhaustively massive tome on these issues of morality – probably not!

DJ Goodnews is a fascinating character and must have been fun to write, he’s like a pinball crashing around in the life of Katie Carr’s family. Every now and then the velocity of his trajectory slows and the soft fall of the reaction he prompts is as interesting as the upheaval. His involvement in the life of the family heralds amazing insights. Off on a tangent I loved the interaction between Molly and Brian. Brian is earnest, honest, and his view of life is uncompromisingly literal. Brian has autism, and is rather refreshingly special.

There’s a whole ‘hold on tightly and let go lightly’ balance of reflection on change that’s memorably being sought here and I hope it enchants others as it did me.

I passed this on years ago at a BookCrossing Meet-Up after reading it and now I realise as I come to the BookCrossing site to register another copy, that this copy has not been given a ‘release’ journal entry. So finally this copy is marked as travelling.
