Bought this for a holiday read so now ready for new reader. Good book, very similar to 'Quake' in format. Not a typical King novel, but all the same a good holiday read.
Thank you so much. I will indeed read and release.
Finally finished this book. Wow, what a great read. This is one of King's best thrillers. Not just a tale of horror, but of mystery and friendship. The plot is simple. One moment, people are merrily chatting on their cell phones. The next, they are killing each other in senseless violence. Their humanity has vanished.
When the dust settles, the main character figures out that some kind of signal was sent out to all cell phones that made people go beserk. Clay wants to find his young son, and his memories of the boy and anguish at not knowing his fate are heartbreaking. Clay meets up with a teenager Alice, another man Tom, and a young boy Jordan. All these people were not on cell phones at the time of the Pulse - and are safe. Or are they? Because the "phoners" are changing, evolving horrifyingly. And they seem to have an evil leader.
King created characters you really care about and root for. I have not cared about book characters - or any characters - like this for a long, long time. And as a master writer, he just keeps the reader on the edge, daring you to hope that maybe there is a way out.
A masterpiece - highly recommend.
