Bought secondhand from library sale

After putting off reading this for fear of it being a typical "blockbuster"-type novel, I was pleasantly surprised when I finally started reading. The story is more or less the same as the movie, except for the rice-run and the end, but the writing is much more thoughtful and creative than one would expect. I'm not sure yet how I feel about the ending, but the first 7/8s are excellent and well worth the read.
