Jody Rogers has hit a rough patch. She has just quit her job as a waitress when she comes home to discover her boyfriend in the shower with her cousin. Turning to her parents for help, she finds they've turned her room into a craft studio. So she moves in with her best friend, Erin, and spends her days watching talk shows and feeling depressed. Her hottest prospect for a new job is with a company that manufactures shock-therapy machines. She is being pursued by a suitor who's slightly off, and playing reluctant maid of honor in her friend Hannah's fourth wedding. But toss in a budding romance with a handsome former classmate, and things aren't quite so bad. French manages to make bizarre situations seem plausible, and her strong suit lies in the characters. Although Jody is discouraged, she remains sympathetic, and readers will be delighted when she turns her life around.
