Manhattan, When I Was Young

Mary Cantwell's Manhattan is gone -- as is she -- but what a place it was! This beautifully written memoir brings us into a world where the highs were exhilirating, the lows were devestating, and intelligent, talented women often struggled to keep from going mad.

I just received this book from annulla so I haven't had time to read it yet. But I love Manhattan and I just got back from a New York visit--so the timing is perfect. It's in my TBR pile. I'll come back and review it once I read it. Thanks, annulla--what a pal!
I'm sorry it took so long to get to this book because I really enjoyed it. A snapshot of New York City life in the 50's as seen from the perspective of a new college graduate, determined to be a writer, as she experiences single life, marriage, motherhood and divorce. She lovingly describes each apartment--most of them in the Greenwich Village she adores.
