Big As Life: Three Tales for Spring

Another bargin book of short stories recommended by B&N. "A survival kit for the family life : Three passionate tales of Nature, Love, and Art from one of America's most esteemed writers." "The dazzling title piece explores the life and work of John James Audubon, whose dedication to his masterpiece, "The Birds of America", consumed everyone around him - most poignanlty, his wife, Lucy. In "Children with Matches", a feminist historian discovers the hard lessons of the past may be a route to responsibility in the present. "The Magdalene" is a tale of a willful innocence and loss of faith about a woman who comes to New York in the 1930's to be the nanny of a wealthy family. The beauty of Howard's evocative tales summon the mastery of Chekhov and Flaubert."
I am a fan of short stories and really got a lot out of these. Especially history, which I enjoy. I found it initially difficult to get into "Children with Matches", enjoyed "The Magdalene" the most, and found "Big as Life" about J.J. Audubon to be quite interesting. I thought the writer really has a gift, even though I was unfamiliar with her work.
I will probably peruse rabck.com again for a reader, since in this area of Miami I have had no sucess with any of my wild releases.
