The Amazing Pippi Longstocking (Penguin Children's 60s S.)
11 journalers for this copy...
purchased on Ebay, as it looked like a fun children's story, a nice fun, quick read. (Penguin 60's, the short mini books that are so adorable.)
It sure has been ages since I did one but the time has finally come to do another travel narrative bookbox!
There are a few rules:
1. Journal all books that you take out of the box
2. Add the same number of books that you remove from the box
3. Post in the journal that is with the box when sending and receiving the box, so I can track it
4. Please try to keep the bookbox for no longer than 2 weeks
5. If the box is starting to show signs of wear, please replace it
6. Media mail is perfectly acceptable, delivery confirmation is up to you
7. Box returns to me at the end
8. Travel narratives only: no guidebooks, phrasebooks, non-travel books
9. If you could list in your journal entry which books are you taking and which ones you are putting in, I would appreciate it. Like seeing what happens between I send the box and when I get it back.
10. Have fun!

The Travel Bookbox arrived safely today, despite the rain. (The box is starting to split so I plan to replace it for its next hop.)
I had to smile when I saw this book; I love the little Penguin 60s, and I have fond - if dim - memories of reading about Pippi when I was a kid.
Update, 3/30: the box is in the mail, to 6of8 in Maryland. (Azuki had been next on the list but asked to be moved down a slot or two.) Tracking #: 9549012103467089064235

Pies and Prejudice
On a Hoof and Prejudice
And I added
Home Free
The Caliph's House
Over Sand and Sea
The Best American Travel Writing of 2003
ResQgeek selected
Dave Barry Does Japan
And added

Received the book box last week and have PM'd the next in line for her/his name and address. No answer, so will write again. What a great box: on first glance, I wanted everything! But now I've narrowed it down somewhat. It appears that only one of the original books in the box still remains (the Mangos title, about Africa and the Peace Corps.)
Also, I had the chance to re-read Pippi Longstocking, which was much weirder than I remembered as a kid. I guess all the lies were a real shock to me as a child, and made it particularly fun (plus, of course, having a horse living on the porch.) It's quite the wish fulfillment book for a little girl. So, it was great to read this again, though I missed the illustrations in the version I had as a child.
Planning to take:
https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/add/512-13374053 Extra virgin
https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/add/029-14502099 Bay Country
https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/add/969-14436058 Paris My Sweet
https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/add/273-13243442 Beyond Belfast
https://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/add/924-14463467 Long Way Down
Putting in:
A Room with A View, E.M. Forster
Aya of Yop City
Stones into Schools
Travels with Lizbeth
Walking to Vermont
Following up re: burst box. That's crazy! I just replaced the old box with a new one, that I thought was sturdy enough, but I guess the box was as cheap as the purchase that came in it...

The box has arrived. Two of its sides are completely burst, but I counted 23 books in it, which is more than what the box started with, so I presume nothing was lost? Anyway, a nice mix of travelogues and expat stories from all over the world, even a few fictions in it.
I don't have a suitable box to replace it yet, but I do have a nice stack of books ready to go in. Will post my selection next week or two.
ETA: I've mailed the box on but then realized that I left the journal behind! Sorry. In between the post office trips I decided to read this, as I've never read Pippi Longstocking. What a curious girl! Definitely the "girls who behave don't have fun" type.

Hi All! So glad to be included in this reincarnation of the travel narratives bookbox. I have one to add, but am on the lookout for more... Pippi arrived in the mail today, the lil journal, loved those movies as a kiddo. I read the first 20 pages or so, hope I can get around to finishing it before the box moves on. Speaking of which, only the journal arrived, but I figure that this means the box will be along in a few days, plus I read the previous JE's about needing a larger, maybe, sturdier box. It happens. I will look forward to browsing the box when it arrives, I know I like to send things media mail, cheaper but can take a bit longer. -Patience is a virtue, of which I have some???
P.s. I will contact booksandmusic re: their address once the box arrives.
Box arrived Monday, 8/7/17. I will open it and report back regarding additions, subtractions and contents it arrived with. It looks to be in pretty good shape, I may be able to reuse the box.
I counted 22 books, though I could've miscounted.
Taking out:
The Road to Santiago
Walking to Vermont
Two wheels and a Taxi
An African in Greenland
Putting in:
In a Sunburnt Country
A Summer in Europe
All Over the Map
an Innocent, a Broad
*I have messaged Booksand Music re: their address, I will wait a week for a response and if I hear nothing I will forward to thegoaliegirl.

Hooray! The box made it home! There are so many amazing books in here! I've already got a start of the next box going... so stay tuned in a few months for my next one. Would love to hear if you would prefer one or two a year from here on...
