Ha ha. I judged this book by the cover. The book jacket contains a favorable review on the book by Susan Sontag (the words that got me were "incisive" and "witty") and a favorable comment on the author by Joan Didion (she called another of Aldadeff's books "a history and a novel and a poem..."). I wonder whether Sontag read the same book as I did. As for the verity of Didion's comment, I'm not inspired enough by the wittiness of the Diary to seek out any more of the author's books.
The title, however, is intriguing. I would say this is definitely worth reading, if not for the book itself, then for the ideas the book's promise will invariably inspire in a reader who wishes to write.
