Another Chuck.
Weird, and powerful.
Somehow I don't feel too good about this one, but I couldn't tell you why.
I liked the idea of the hidden rooms full of messages, anyway.

Re-reading a lot of my old favourites to see how they hold up over time.
Stylistically, this is still not one of my favourite Chucks. And as fond as he is of anecdotes and urban legends and hearsay and gossip - that's also the kind of exactness you get with him, the exactness of gossip. He couldn't be more wrong about the Jains and about Frida Kahlo and about where exactly you stick a woman's catheter (hint: it does not go in her vagina), but on the other hand: if you like the same sort of things, and also a touch of the supernatural, and you want to read something for the spooky entertainment factor (and sometimes also to be really grossed out), that's what he delivers. He can get very repetitive over time (and not just within the stylistically necessary repetitions in one book, but also from book to book, repeating his favourite images and turns of phrase), but he does write some effective horror. And turn this any way you want, it is a hell of an effective horror story.
This book is still residing in my Permanent Collection..
