~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BLURB~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aged just twenty-three, James Frey had destroyed his body and his mind beyond repair. When he enters a rehabilitation centre to try to reclaim his life, he has to fight to determine what future, if any, he has. His lack of self-pity, cynicism and piety gives him an unflinching honesty - a fearless candour that is at once charming and appalling, searing and darkly funny.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

James Frey has written a book which doesn't gloss over addiction, it shows us the pure selfishness, depression and disrespect an addict has for their own life. But he also shows the hope and determination one person can have in order to try and rebuild their lives. I found the style of writing to be a little strange, the actual layout looks like it is a poem, and sometimes (actually fairly often) some of what is written is very hard and disturbing to read. For someone such as myself, who has never had to deal with anything like this, or known anyone who has, it is a shocking read.

I read this before hearing that a big fuss had been made in America about how parts of this weren't real. I didn't even know when I started reading that it was supposed to be a true account. I think I had the right idea, by taking it as fiction (albeit one based on reality) I think I got more out of it than those who read it believing it to be a true account and then finding they had been misled.

A good book and one I would recommend to everyone who wants something different to read.
