Purchased this from a used bookstore in Louisville, KY- it is an advanced reading copy.

Plan to bring this on vacation to North Carolina- if I happen to read it, will leave behind.

I read this a few months back and forgot to write a journal entry. Although it was slow paced, I enjoyed the book very much. At first I didn't like the main characters, but as the book progressed they became much more interesting. I also felt the writing gave a different perspective on the usual Civil War (or War Between the States) themes.

I also was surprised to find as I was reading the story was a fictionalized version of the Carnton Plantation in Franklin, TN. I had visited the plantation a few years ago on a visit to Nashville and would heartily recommend the trip if you happen to be in the area. The graves are really exactly the same as described in the book and you can still see the rooms in which the surgeons operated in the main house.

If you enjoy Civil War era fiction, this is definitely a good read.
