"...an unforgettable novel about the ability of books to feed the soul"
Postal release on 10-17-06 to skeeterbess in Hawaii.
Sent to me by the delightful oldbroad. Mahalo, ma'am! Looking forward to reading it soon (it won't get buried in Mount TBR!)
This book shot into the elite list of my top ten favortie reads ever. There are obvious parallels to the life of Anne Frank, but they are seen through the life of a young German girl, imprisoned in a different way by the same terrible war. Leisel finds a book as the story opens, and the acquisition and reading of books becomes the theme that defines the events of her life. Her story is narrated by Death, who takes his job very seriously, but exhibits a surprising compassion and even, occasionally a sense fo humor. This isn't a happy book. There's too much loss, depravity and aching sadness. But it's a hopeful book, driven by Leisel's imagination, determination and courage. I hope the next reader enjoys it as much as I did.
I will pass this on to another BookCrosser at tomorrow's gathering of the Table of Contents.
Hmmm! No new journal entry. I passed this on to someone at TOC, or at least I'm pretty sure I did. Must go track it down. It's out there somewhere being loved!

Sorry, I've been *busy* and haven't had a chance to log this in until now. Sounds like a good one.
Hm. If you steal a book that's going to be burned anyway, that's not stealing, that's rescuing, right? Skeeterbess knows about rescuing books! ;)

Wow, I didn't think this book had been on my TBR stack for *that* long!
I'm not a huge fan of the narrator, and the style of the book annoyed me in the beginning, but I was pretty sure that if I kept going for a little while the story would suck me in, and it did.
There are many different kinds of courage, and different types of heroes.
Overall, an enjoyable read which will go back to TOC this weekend.
Other copies on my BookCrossing shelf: 6233784 • 11508379 • 13763438

Received today at TOC lunch. Thanks to all for passing this along.
This was the most engrossing read I've had all year. The storytelling sucks you in. Yes, you know where it's going, and it's got its fair share of cliches, but well done and engaging overall.
The one thing that bothers me coming out, though, is were there no other girls in this town? Too much to deal with the pressure between girls not to keep secrets, or competition for male attention? That she had no female friends is downright bizarre.
Back to TOC, 6/28/08.

This book was found in the library of Purple58, a very special woman whom I was fortunate enough to meet through our BookCrossing group, the Table of Contents.
Fiercely independent, with a loving heart and a wicked sense of humor, she was passionate about the things she believed in and was willing to stand up and be counted when necessary. She was truly a one of a kind individual, and she will be missed by all of her many friends...who prefer to believe that she's off in Vegas, having a fabulous time and eating as many desserts as she wants.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
To be released Saturday, October 29, at the Happy Holly-Day party.
This book is released in memory of BookCrosser purple58, who wanted all of her books to find good homes after she was gone. Please feel free to read it, keep it, pass it on...whatever you wish. If you have something to say about the book, or a memory to share about Holly, please feel free to post it here: she was never shy about sharing her opinions, so she wouldn't expect any less.

I'm so glad you've found this book!
Please take a moment to make a journal entry and let the book's previous readers know that it's safe with you.
How and where did you find the book? What did you think of it? What are you going to do with it next?
It's now your book, for you to do with as you please: keep it, pass it to a friend, or maybe even leave it where someone else can find it!
If you've ever wondered where your books go after they leave your hands, join BookCrossing and you may find out: you'll be able to follow the further adventures of your books as new readers make journal entries - sometimes from surprisingly far-flung locations.
(Think of it like Where's George for books: a little like geocaching or a treasure hunt - you can follow a registered book's journey every time someone makes a new entry. Some BookCrossers even leave books *in* geocaches!)

This book came home from purple58's wonderful send-off with me. I think Holly would have loved her final party and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. (The word cloud in the journal entry was generated from descriptions of Holly by her friends.)
This book will be heading out soon in honor of a special woman who was undoubtedly chuckling as sheplanned plotted out how she would have us celebrate her life. :)
