Dancing with Mules

'Dancing With Mules' is the debut novel by Morag Prunty, and with it she firmly positions herself in the company of other great Irish chick lit writers. This is a cleverly written book, combining a varied cast of rich, likeable characters with a classic plot turned on its head. It's fluffy fun with an unexpected ending that helps seal the deal!
Early in the book we are introduced to Xavier Big, an Irish American billionaire who is looking for an Irish wife. Cue a selection of the ladies hoping he will sweep them off their feet. Each of the major players in the running are endearing, and no matter how different they initially seem to yourself, you quickly begin to identify with them. The means and ends they seem prepared to reach, to win his hand in marriage, range from the honest to the underhand to the downright dirty and provide opportunity after opportunity to laugh out loud.

I'm in a "Shop-a-holic" period and this one seemed funny, so I picked it up at yesterday's meetup in Milan.
Brilliant _and_ clever, which are not always found together... being the first novel of the author, even more surprising.
I laughed my head off but also pondered seriously e.g. over Gloria's relation with her ex-husband.
I hope to hear more from Prunty in the future!

Leggiona passed it to me as as surprise, yesterday eve. The fact that is set in Dublin make me think that, in any way, I will like it ;)
I think this book is brilliant! I loved the story, I laughed a lot and now I am missing Dublin soooo much!! :)

I caught this book at the "Hotel Atlantic Kempinski Hamburg". Although I am not too impressed with the dust jacket and blurb I am going to have a closer look, just because I´ve been so happy about finding a bookcrossing book again. And this one has really travelled quite a bit!
Well, "chick lit" does sound pretty daffy to me, but that´s just a made-up word I guess and you people really seemed to have liked the story. I´ll let you know what I think about it in a little bit.
