Barbara Scot describes not only her travels in Nepal, but how women's issues are ths same worldwide.
I loved this book. I'm leaving for Nepal in a few months for a similar program to what Scot did. Her descriptions not only of the people and landscape, but of a few teaching tools too make me feel even more excited about the trip.

Had some difficulty with the book... she jumps around a lot and I think takes too much effort to try to generalize big ideas from small incidents. The small incidents themselves were far more interesting to me and didn't require big insights to go along with them! It's also hard to know whether the things she observed in her village are common throughout Nepal, so I hesitate to buy into the big generalizations... and it seemed that just as she'd come up with a generalization, she'd present someone else who was a counterexample...
But the descriptions of everyday life and the stories of adventures and encounters she had DID present a good picture. I wonder how much things have changed even in the last 15 or so years since she wrote it.
