Palin tells of his ninety-nine day journey through North Africa and the Sahara Desert. There is little trace of the beaten tourist track in this book other than perhaps the laying of the foundations of a trail for indomitable travellers who may wish to follow in his footsteps to discover a part of the world which is unknown (or out of bounds) to all but the most adventurous. The book provides an interesting insight into a part of the world where life has changed in the last couple of thousand years. Rating 7/10.
